How fast will I receive feedback on my software?

We aim to complete software testing requests within 24-72 hours. In our experience, most work takes less time than that. If you have more complex software testing needs, those requests may take longer. Our clients are surprised at how efficient we can be!

How does onboarding work?

Contact us for a free, 1-hour consultation, where we discuss your software testing needs, including understanding your tech stack, your business goals, user profiles, and your quality frustrations.

We’ll then set you up in our client management system. Once payment is made, we’ll get to work testing your apps!

Who are the testers?

QA Captain is a solo software testing studio, ran by Lee — the actual QA Captain! Lee is computer scienced trained, a rarity for software testers, and holds multiple certifications in testing. With 20 years of software testing experience, you’ll quickly find that Lee is passionately obsessed with the craft of testing! Lee is eager to provide help to improve the quality of your software!

Is there a limit to what is tested?

Once subscribed, you can add as many testing requests as needed for your team. Please keep in mind, that The Red Pen Process is only for manual software testing request, not engineering requests like test automation.

What do you mean by “per team?”

A single software app can be made by multiple feature development teams using multiple software repositories. Per team means per feature development team.

For example, if you have 3 software development teams working on 3 repositories, the $4998 fee will apply to each team ($4998 x 3) we work with.

Does this service include test automation or other engineering related work?

No. The Red Pen Process is our manual software testing service. It does not include any quality engineering tasks like test automation.

How do I request testing?

We work with tools you already have in place like Jira and Slack. You can assign us tasks just like you would with an internal team member.

How do you work with clients?

We work with clients remotely! We are located in Seattle — in the Pacific time zone — which allows us the ability to work with clients all over the U.S. and Canada!

What happens if you don’t find any bugs?

It is extremely rare for us to NOT find any bugs during testing. Software systems are complex, variable, and constantly evolving. There will be bugs! In fact, we don’t guarantee your app will be bug free. Guaranteeing zero bugs isn’t just impossible, it’s irresponsible.

We test with care, context, and integrity. That’s how you ship with confidence, not false promises!

Do you retest after bug fixes?

Absolutely! Once your team fixes the bugs found, let us know, and we can validate they are truely fixed! And, if we find new bugs, we’ll let you know. We’ll keep testing until you and us both have the confidence that your software is exceptional!

That doesn’t mean an endless cycle of testing for each request! We’re confident in our 20 years experience in performing the right amount of testing for each request, not overtesting or undertesting.

Are there any requests you don’t support?

Yes! This service does not cover any quality engineering tasks like test automation. And we are not currently setup to do any mobile app testing. If you request something we can’t cover, we’ll let you know and will help find recommendations. We pride ourselves on being honest and ethicial in our communication with our clients.

What tools do you use?

For software testing, we use common industry tools that you likely use yourself. For project management, we use common tools like Jira and Slack. If you use other tools, we’ll do our best to accommodate.

Are there any refunds?

Due to the nature of the worked performed, there will be no refunds issued after work has started. If you have signed up and:

– no work has been requested, and
– no work has been completed by us, then

Please contact us ASAP, and we can cancel the service.
